Centennial International is exclusive partners with Lengthen Group, South Africa’s leading coal trading and mining company, with long-term relationships and in part exclusive access to mining operations of coal producers in South Africa, Indonesia, Poland, Russia, the Americas including Colombia & Venezuela. Together, we cater to Pakistan’s ever growing energy fuel supply demand. Pakistan’s industry has been predominately been using natural gas/fuel/HFO/diesel etc. With the limited gas resources and the fuel prices going up, Pakistan’s industry is facing a daunting task of finding alternate fuels. We are currently negotiating long-term agreements with power plants that are converting from furnace oil to coal. We see a continuous rise in coal imports into Pakistan

Pakistan’s coal imports are estimated to surge to 30 million tons/annum from existing 20 million tons/annum by the year 2020, given the planned expansion of cement manufacturers and coal-based power plants scheduled to come online in a couple of years around 8.0 million tons of coal was imported by cement companies every year, while 12 million tons was imported by power plants including Sahiwal Power Plant and Port Qasim power plants. The demand by cement manufacturers was estimated to increase by 2.0 million tons, while 8.0 million tons would be required by coal-based power plants by 2020.

Pakistan prefers to buy higher-quality South African coal in order to maximize the energy value of each ton imported. This means that lower-quality Indonesian coal is mainly used as blending with higher grades. South African coal has a significant freight advantage over similar grades of coal from Australia, and from more distant suppliers such as the United States and Colombia. For this reason, South African coal exporters are confident they can command the lion’s share of growth in Pakistan.
